'Road to the Isles'

‘The Road to the Isles’
DH 89A Rapide . The aircraft was designed in the early 1930’s as air transport started to become viable. Used throughout Scotland it became a firm favourite in the Highlands as it could land/take-off from the island beaches (this technique still in use today). Impressed into the Forces at the outbreak of WW2 a further 500 were built for training and communication duties.
A fair number are still flying and are a regular feature at air shows offering air experience flights - great fun, too.
The aircraft shown was photographed at Duxford and the background is from my archives - composite image.
