With reasonable weather forecast all the operational Squadrons would be tasked to provide the maximum number possible of Lancasters for the night’s ops. As the Lancaster struggles over the airfield boundary fence with a full weapons load the ‘green light’ is flashed to the next in line for take off - and so another mission starts.
This little tableau was repeated over 150,000 time during WW2 for the Lancaster force and now only one remains in flyable condition to act as a memorial to the crews long gone.
