Brothers in Arms

Brothers in Arms
Two Mustangs, revelling in the peaceful conditions at high altitude, recovering to their bases at the tail end of WW2. By this time, March 1945, almost total air superiority had been achieved by the Allied forces and the need for any degree of camouflage had been dispensed with - hence the very individual colour schemes.
The 8th Air Force P51, ‘Big Beautiful Doll‘, was based at RAF Duxford and is seen accompanied by a Canadian Mustang from 442 RCAF Squadron based at RAF Hunsdon, only a few miles south of Duxford.
Image is a composite constructed from various airshow photographs and skyscape background from my archives.
